Above: How the new facility could appear
The Cricket Club is seeking support for a unique venture to secure its future and the future of youth cricket in the village. We have the opportunity to expand within the village and a brand new purpose built contemporary cricket pavilion. This will include a new indoor cricket and sports Academy which can be used all year round with far reaching benefits for the village.
The Club has outgrown the current pavilion and the cricket pitch which is situated on the village green, limiting what can be achieved within the current footprint in terms of the progression of the Club.
The new facility will enable:
Year round training for cricket, football and other indoor sports
Opportunity for local schools engagement
4 new indoor nets and associated facilities
New bar and catering facilities
Accessibility for all
Significant improvements for girls’ and womens’ cricket
Versatile space for events and meeting rooms
Much needed facilities for young people
The proposals will be funded by Hills Residential
This will be funded by Hills Residential alongside a new housing development proposed north of Weeley Road, opposite the Taylor Wimpey site.
Great Bentley has seen many new housing developments but there has been little community benefit for the people of the village. The club have been proactive and worked with Hills to design a facility that can meet the needs of the Club and community.
Hills have agreed as part of a new application to build these facilities as long as there is sufficient support from the village, and both the District and Parish Councils.
Below you can see images of what the proposals could look like.
This is an opportunity to transform cricket, football and other indoor sports in Great Bentley as well as providing facilities for the local community. Whilst the primary focus of this proposal is on youth development, these proposals will transform opportunities in Great Bentley for generations to come. Here's a map of the new facility, with the new homes adjacent.
